Coachella Valley Home Sales rise 9.4%

Coachella Valley Home sales rose 9.4 percent in September compared to September 2010 as reported in the Desert Sun .
This outpaced Riverside County and Southern California .

The valley's strength as a second-home market continues to help drive sales. One positive sign was that the percentage of distressed sales continues to fall, said Greg Berkemer, executive vice president of the California Desert Association of Realtors.
Since January of this year, 8,399 valley homes and condos have sold in the Palm Springs area . That’s nearly 5% more than in the first nine months of the previous year of 2010 as reported by DataQuick  The Coachella valley is on track to see more than 10,000 home and condo sales this year.

“A recovering market needs to see that continue every month,” said Berkemer, noting, “The desert had a better-than-expected summer.

BNP Paribas Open 2011 Economic Impact

INDIAN WELLS CALIFORNIA
BNP PARIBAS OPEN

MARCH 5-18, 2012

A report recently released indicated the 2011 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Ca attracted 350,086 people  and put $289.9 million into the Palm Springs area economy last March. It is an increase of about $188 million from 2001 when the first report was complied.

This approaches Super Bowl proportions, not bad for our little valley of 320,000 folk's!

This is the most attended tennis tournament outside of the four Grand Slams and continues to grow.
As a tennis fan and player I am very excited to have the opportunity to have this type of premier tennis event in our backyard.

It does not get better than this for avid tennis player's along with the social tennis crowd!

I can play tennis at Palm Desert Tennis Club in the morning and be at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in 15 minutes !!
Every year the new owner Larry Ellison spends the funds to make the event even better.
Looking at these numbers you better think about booking a room early if you can still find something available.
It is only October and the valley is active . Lot's of snowbirds are coming back for the season ready to enjoy another great season in the desert.

Palm Desert New Aquatic Center

The Desert Sun reported  about  14,000 people have passed through the gate of Palm Desert's new aquatic center since it opened three and a half weeks ago. In addition money is spent on food at the concession stand. . My husband and I took a walk around the scenic Palm Desert  park and stopped by to look at the pool about 7:00 pm one night  . We found  children sliding down the slides , water polo matches, and areas where you can swim laps. The entrance of Palm trees is so very impressive so if you are in the area make sure you stop by .

Daily admission to the center, at 73-751 Magnesia Falls Drive, ranges from $2.50 to $6, depending on age and if you are a resident of Palm Desert. The Y also sells pool passes that range in price from $94 for a 25-use card to $825 for an adult annual pass for nonresidents.

What a wonderful addition to Palm Desert and the valley !! .

March Madness in the Desert

March Madness is here in the desert !!  Indian Wells  is busy with the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament bringing in fans from all over the world. I took a break from showing real estate, took in some great tennis and  had to pleasure to meet someone from Tokyo who was in the earthquake . He has attended the tennis  event for 5 years and did not miss this one even with all the problems at home.  That is a true fan!

Palm Desert Tennis Club came in third for the recycled tennis balls competition and several members who won the lottery for suite tickets had a fantastic time . Yes all the food and drinks on the house . Palm Desert Tennis Club is the best kept tennis club  secret in the desert and the word is getting out now . We are such an active club that offers all the tennis and social you need . .
Palm Desert Tennis Club has  tennis history  historic   player's  like Rod Laver as past owners so if you are in town give me a call to take a tour or play tennis .

BNP Paribas Open is the first tournament in the world to implement the Hawk-Eye replay technology on every one of the eight match courts. So far no other event , including the Grand Slams, can claim this distinction.  New concession stands have also been added to include the Corona Plaza , Corona Beach House Bar and Vantage Point all with the purpose of enhancing the viewing experience of the fans.
So make sure you get out the the see all the action !

Not to leave out my neighborhood the Summit located in south Palm Desert which in my opinion  is still one of the most desirable non gated communities in the area.  We have several  homes that have sold from listing prices of $649,000 to over a million . It is a golf cart ride to Ironwood Country Club or Monterra so make sure it is on your must see list for real estate.

So that is all for now have to go a friend just called with tickets for the tennis tonight !!

Palm Desert Real Estate News

Greetings from Sunny South Palm Desert!

New in October....

Cooler Temps!

New Retail Store Openings!

Lots of great properties are on the Market!

For those of us who live in South Palm Desert there has been a lot of changes on El Paseo and in Palm Desert this summer.

New stores such as Apple , Kate Spade and Juicy Couture have opened with many more to come. Starbucks on El Paseo will certainly be busy this year with all the additional retail that has joined us.

Traveling  up the hill to South Palm Desert  many remodels have taken place.  The local market is definitely picking up and it is evident as you drive around.

As owners in The Summit, Don and I are seeing lots of activity with  properties moving and many folks previewing homes that want to live in our community. Low homeowners dues and luxury homes make for a very desirable place to put on your list of must sees! The Summit prices range from $520,000 on a remodel up to $975,000 with a view of Eisenhower mountain. Look for new listings in the coming months. Call me to be the first to see these fine properties!

.
The Summit is next door to another popular community, Monterra. I would suggest if you are looking in this area to not miss the home that is $699,000 and has a view you do not want to miss. Monterra, which is a 24 hour gated community, offers homes priced from $679,000 to $769,000.

On the way to Monterra from the Summit is the Palm Desert Tennis Club, a 100 unit, very active Social and Tennis Club. One of these spacious condo's in PDTC was previously owned by Rod Laver who won 11 Grand slam Tennis titles.
Yes this is my listing, so make sure you take a look if you are in the market for a great condo in a unique, friendly Club.
Prices at the Palm Desert Tennis Club range from $279,000-$329,000 for a 3 bedroom /2 bath.

Last but not least, Ironwood Country Club continues to upgrade its streets, medians and Clubhouses.  From 2 bedroom weekend getaways to multi million dollar luxury estates, Ironwood  Country Club has it all.
One particular property I have shown a lot this summer is a newer home with over 4000 square feet and fantastic views. Lots of interest in this property and I would love to showcase it to anyone who is in the market for a great home.

These are just a few of the many great Communities in South Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley. Please call or visit my website to preview and find out why we love the Desert!

Hiking in Palm Desert

As a hiker for many years I thought you might enjoy some information about  the trails in the  Palm Desert / Desert Cities area.

Living in  The Summit area of South Palm Desert, there are many trails within easy driving distance.  Of course in the summer we go early or later on in the day, packing lots of water and my trusty hiking pole that has been with me for many years.

Besides hiking I enjoy walking up the sidewalk on Hwy 74 next to Bighorn Country Club . On Friday's there are tons of cars coming over from San Diego to enjoy our weather for the weekend.

Also in the summer we play evening tennis at Palm Desert Tennis Club, where we are members and yes we start at 6:30 PM but it gets cool fast when the sun goes down.
We love the summers  in the desert . Enjoy the picture of a moonlight hike in July

Hiking Trails

Palm Desert offers a variety of trails for hiking enthusiasts as well as those who simply love the outdoors and the rich history of Palm Desert and the Santa Rosa San Jacinto National Monument.

Hopalong Cassidy Trail

American movie and television cowboy icon Hopalong Cassidy was portrayed by Palm Desert resident William Boyd. Mr. Boyd was known for giving his “Hoppy” wooden nickels to children, and teaching them his tips on good citizenship (known as “Hoppy’s Creed”). The Trail was dedicated on January 31, 2004 by his widow, Grace Bradley Boyd, who said that “Hoppy and Topper would have loved the trail and encouraged everyone to enjoy it and practice trail safety.”

Randall Henderson Trail

Randall Henderson was instrumental in the development of Palm Desert. An author, desert explorer, and early visionary, he realized the area's potential and began to document its history and growth in The Desert Magazine, a periodical he published from the 1930’s through the 1960’s. The Randall Henderson Trail was dedicated on February 5, 2005, by family members.

Herb Jeffries Trail

This trail is a tribute to the legendary “Bronze Buckaroo,” Herb Jeffries, a film star and recording artist who, in the era of popular western movies, created a cowboy hero for African Americans. Mr. Jeffries, a former Palm Desert resident, performed and spoke at the trail dedication on April 2, 2005.
